Baring-Gould’s
Lives of the Saints – Saint Silvester, or Trani, Monk
Article
(a.d. 1185)
[Saint Silvester, monk of
Trani, near Barletta, in South Italy, is held there in great reverence, and
commemorated on the 2nd January and 2nd May.]
Saint Silvester, of whom
nothing authentic is known, is traditionally said to have been a monk of the
order of Saint Basil, in the convent of Saint Michael, at Bari. Various
miracles are attributed to him, as his having gone one winter day to Catania
and back on foot. He is also said to have entered a baker’s furnace to scrape
the living embers together for him, when he had lost his shovel, and to have
come forth unhurt.

San Silvestro di Troina Abate
Troina (Enna), XI-XII
sec. – 2 gennaio 1164
Martirologio
rientrato a Troina venne eletto abate.
Troina.
